How to Calculate Drywall for a Basement

Follow these steps to get the right amount of drywall for any basement project, then use the calculator below to skip the math.

  1. Measure the area. Multiply length × width in feet to get square footage.
  2. Convert to sheet (4×8). Apply the standard drywall coverage factor.
  3. Add overage. Multiply by 1.10 to cover 10% waste.
  4. Round up. Always round up to the next whole sheet (4×8) or bag.
